Do I need a formal diagnosis to seek help for disordered eating?
No. There is no “threshold” or diagnosis you must meet to seek help. In fact, the earlier treatment is started for most eating disorders, the better the outcome. If your relationship with food, weight, exercise, or body image is impacting your quality of life in any way, you deserve support — regardless of how long you’ve been struggling, what size body you live in, or how severe your symptoms are.
Who are the dietitians at Nutrition Aligned?
Nutrition Aligned is co-owned by two Registered Dietitians:
• Sarah Atlas, RD, LD, CEDS — A Certified Eating Disorder Specialist who focuses primarily on eating disorders, disordered eating, chronic dieting, and body image concerns for adolescents and adults. She earned her CEDS credential through IAEDP.
• Leanne Nieto, RD, LD — Specializes in weight management, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, pre-diabetes, and sports nutrition. She has over five and a half years of clinical and outpatient dietitian experience.
Do you accept insurance?
Nutrition Aligned can accept HSA (Health Savings Account) and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) payments, and they provide a superbill for possible insurance reimbursement. Many patients don’t realize they have nutrition therapy benefits that allow them to receive counseling at little to no out-of-pocket cost. If you don’t have insurance or nutrition benefits, cash-pay discounts are available — Nutrition Aligned believes Nutrition Care is a Patient RIGHT.
What is the InBody Body Composition Analysis?
The InBody 570 is an advanced, non-invasive device that provides a highly accurate breakdown of your body composition in just 60 seconds. Unlike traditional scales or BMI, the InBody measures your skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage, and total body water balance. This detailed data allows the dietitians to create highly personalized nutrition plans and track meaningful, healthy physiological changes over time.
What happens during a one-on-one nutrition consultation?
During your initial consultation, your dietitian will review your complete medical history, bloodwork, current lifestyle, relationship with food, and goals to develop a completely individualized and realistic nutrition care plan. Education is provided on relevant nutrition topics and lab results as needed. Follow-up appointments monitor your progress, modify the care plan as needed, increase accountability, and build on your nutrition knowledge to create a sustainable plan for life.
What is a Group Nutrition Education Event?
Group events are completely customizable gatherings for friends, family, workout buddies, co-workers, or any group at $50 per participant. A typical event includes a group presentation and Q&A on a nutrition topic of your choice (~30 minutes), an optional InBody 570 body composition scan for each attendee (minimum group size of 8 for InBody), and a brief (~5-10 minute) one-on-one goal-setting discussion with a dietitian for each member.
What topics can be covered in group presentations?
Popular group presentation topics include:
• Nutrition 101 (Carbs, Protein, Fat, Portion Sizes, Micronutrients)
• Label Reading 101
• Nutrition for Sport
• Supplements — Yes or No?
• Body Image / Disordered Eating / Eating Disorders
• Nutrition Myth Busting
• Nutrition for a Busy Schedule
• Or any nutrition-related topic of your choice — events are completely customizable!
What does the Grocery Shopping with a Dietitian service include?
This is a 2-hour personalized private shopping trip where you’ll learn the ins and outs of choosing foods and avoiding nutrition marketing myths to meet your long-term health and fitness goals. You’ll learn what actually matters on a nutrition label to make better choices and how to choose the best foods to nourish and fuel your body. The grocery store is one of the biggest barriers to achieving health goals, and this service helps you change old habits with expert guidance.
What eating disorders does Nutrition Aligned treat?
Nutrition Aligned treats a comprehensive range of eating disorders including:
• Anorexia Nervosa (AN) — characterized by restriction, over-exercise, and intense fear of weight gain
• Bulimia Nervosa (BN) — cycles of bingeing followed by purging
• Binge Eating Disorder (BED) — the most common eating disorder, involving using food as a coping tool
• Diabulimia — restriction of insulin in Type 1 Diabetes to manipulate weight
• ARFID — extreme food avoidance due to texture, appearance, smell, or taste
• OSFED — symptoms that cause significant distress but don’t strictly meet criteria of other diagnoses
What is Nutrition Aligned's approach to eating disorder treatment?
Sarah Atlas, a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, practices from a weight-inclusive, evidence-based perspective. Treatment typically involves a multidisciplinary team (dietitian, therapist, physician, and possibly psychiatrist). The dietitian’s role focuses on creating a strategic nutrition rehabilitation plan, monitoring for complications like refeeding syndrome, guiding patients through correcting distorted views of food, body image, and exercise, and helping them reconnect with hunger/fullness cues. They also work closely with the support team at home.
How does Nutrition Aligned help with chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure?
Nutrition Aligned provides medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for chronic conditions. For pre-diabetes (which is reversible!), they focus on preventing progression to Type 2 diabetes through evidence-based nutrition education. For diabetes, they provide individualized counseling specific to clinical and lifestyle needs. For high blood pressure, they educate on reducing sodium and saturated fat intake and creating personalized plans. For high cholesterol, they help manage levels through realistic dietary and lifestyle adjustments. Their philosophy is that 80% of the diet should be nutrient-dense foods, with 20% for your favorite “fun foods.”
What Women's Health conditions does Nutrition Aligned address?
Nutrition Aligned provides specialized nutrition support for:
• PMOS (formerly PCOS) — addressing insulin resistance, inflammation, blood sugar balance, and hormone support
• Perimenopause — adjusting macronutrients to stabilize energy and support changing metabolism
• Menopause — focusing on heart-healthy eating, protein optimization for lean muscle, and micronutrients for bone health
• GLP-1 Medication Support — helping manage side effects, prioritize protein to protect muscle mass, and develop sustainable eating habits while on medications like Wegovy, Ozempic, or Zepbound
Can Nutrition Aligned help if I'm taking GLP-1 medications (Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound)?
Yes. While Nutrition Aligned does not prescribe GLP-1 medications, they provide dedicated nutritional support alongside your medical provider. Because these medications significantly reduce appetite and alter digestion, it’s common to under-eat, lose muscle mass, or experience gastrointestinal side effects. Their dietitians help you meet your nutritional needs, manage side effects, prioritize protein to protect muscle mass, and develop a sustainable relationship with food that lasts beyond your medication journey.
Do you offer educational presentations for healthcare professionals?
Yes. Nutrition Aligned offers professional eating disorder training at a flat fee of $250, designed for healthcare professionals and treatment teams. Topics may include recognizing eating disorders in medical/mental health settings, medical and nutritional complications, screening and referral recommendations, weight-inclusive evidence-based care, and supporting patients through recovery. These are ideal for therapy practices, medical offices, healthcare organizations, schools, and university health services.
Do you offer presentations for schools and athletic teams?
Yes. Nutrition Aligned offers specialized presentations focused on recognizing warning signs of eating disorders and Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S), understanding risk factors, and creating supportive environments. Topics include nutrition for performance and long-term health, body image and social media influences, and when and how to seek help. These are ideal for athletic teams and coaches, school counselors and educators, athletic trainers, parents of student-athletes, and youth organizations.

What is Nutrition Aligned's overall philosophy on nutrition?
Nutrition Aligned believes that lasting change comes from small, realistic steps that fit your life — not rigid rules or all-or-nothing approaches. They emphasize REAL science over fad diets, and believe all foods can fit into a healthy diet: 80% nutrient-dense “healthy” foods and 20% your favorite “fun foods.” Their goal is to meet you where you are, cut through the noise, and empower you to achieve your goals on your own terms for the long haul — in a completely judgment-free, compassionate space.
